April 8: Report of Judicial Commission investigating attack on TV journalist Hamid Mir is leaked giving ISI a ‘clean chit.’

April 9: Plainclothed policemen beat up Waqt News cameraman Faraz when he was filming protest of young doctors from Punjab Institute of Cardiology in Lahore.

April 13: National Assembly passes controversial Pakistan Electronics Crimes Bill amidst strong opposition from civil society and media rights groups.

April 20: Pakistan moves up in 2016 RSF World Press Freedom Index from 159th position to 147th position.

April 24: PTI workers thrashed ARY News channel reporter Wasif Mehmood in Lahore on Sunday. The party chief, Imran Khan, ordered action against the workers for their uncalled-for action.

April 26: Express News channel’s Qaiser Khan was booked under Section 500, 506, 384 and 386 of criminal laws after he showed a picture of police official sitting with outlaw in Punjab.

April 29: Police in Karachi arrest host of ARY News programme, Sar-i-Aam, Iqrarul Hasan and his crew team after they staged sting operation to alert the authorities towards security lapse at the Sindh Assembly building. They were charged under Sections 452 (house-trespass after preparation for hurt, assault or wrongful restraint), 188 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant) and 34 (common intention) of the Pakistan Penal Code at the Arambagh police station.

April 30: Senior journalist Shoaibul Hassan was picked up from his residence in Karachi by plainclothed and police uniform personnel.
