Pakistan’s telecommunication operators ask PTA for moratorium on service quality

Pakistan’s cellular mobile operators (CMOs) demanded a moratorium on quality-of-service, roll out obligations, Universal Service Fund (USF) payments and research and development fund reduction from two percent to one per cent amid deterioration in service quality of voice calls across the country.

Google agrees to remove unlicensed micro-lending applications

The Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) announced that Google had agreed to ban all non-licensed micro-lending applications in Pakistan. Most of these applications were involved in cyber fraud and were being operated from outside the country.

NADRA rolls out data protection service for Pakistani citizens

The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) rolled out its ‘Ijazat Aap Ki’ service, an initiative that puts citizens in charge of their personal data. The service will enable citizens to give their consent before verification of CNIC, ensuring their personal data remains protected and secure.

Government proposes task force to ‘check’ anti-army campaign on social media

Police authorities ‘clueless’ as court seeks report on whereabouts of PTI social media handler

The Rawalpindi bench of the Lahore High Court (LHC) sought a report from the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) about the whereabouts of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) social media handler and activist Azhar Moshwani, as police authorities have been ‘clueless’ despite registration of an abduction case.

Pakistani social media activist gets pre-arrest bail, another sent to jail on remand

An additional district judge in Peshawar accepted the application of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) social media activist Ikram Khatana for pre-arrest bail. Meanwhile, another social media activist, Azhar Ali, was sent to prison on a 14-day remand.

Federal Investigation Agency denies having PTI social media head in custody

The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) denied having Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) social media head and activist Azhar Mashwani in custody in a report submitted to the Rawalpindi bench of Lahore High Court (LHC).

Saudi investor launches $100 million technology house in Pakistan

A Saudi technology company, owned by Prince Fahad bin Mansour Al-Saud, announced it will launch a technology house worth $100 million in Islamabad, aiming to forge partnerships with information technology (IT) companies and digital entrepreneurs.
